QCB Annual Report Highlights and What’s Next for 2026

The 2025 Quayside Community Board Annual Report is out, and it’s a strong snapshot of what we’ve achieved and where we’re headed. Representing residents across 20+ buildings and nearly 3 000 units (an estimated 7 000+ neighbours), your volunteer-led board has focused on practical community improvements and stronger connections across our neighbourhood.

2025 highlights include
• Smoother traffic with new train advance warning beacons installed at key crossings after community advocacy with the City
• A successful Connect at the Quay event that brought neighbours, city officials and partners together for real connection and conversation
• Strengthened governance with a refreshed brand, updated engagement work and community presentations on emergency and crisis response
• Over 260 volunteer hours, 20+ engagements with City staff, and five board meetings with solid participation from building reps

Thanks to all the residents, volunteers and partners who helped make this year a success. Special recognition to our executive officers: President Karen Tomkins; Vice President Kendra Johnston; Treasurer Maureen Albanese; Secretary Naomi Scott; and Member at Large David Highfield.

Looking ahead – January 28 meeting
Mark your calendar for the January 28 Quayside Community Board meeting. We’re pleased to welcome Chief Constable Paul Hyland of the New Westminster Police Department, who will join us to talk about public safety, community partnership and local policing priorities. Chief Hyland has deep roots in policing and a long record of service in New Westminster. He officially stepped into the role in January 2025 after an extensive national search and brings a strong focus on community trust and safety to the role.

This meeting is also a key moment for Quayside governance: new board officers will be elected or appointed. If you’ve ever thought about getting more involved in shaping priorities for your neighbourhood, this is the perfect time to step up. Whether you’re considering a board role or just want to learn more about how the board works, join us and bring your voice.

Get engaged. Be heard. Shape our community.

We recognize and respect that New Westminster is on the unceded and unsurrendered land of the Halkomelem-speaking peoples. We acknowledge that colonialism has made invisible their histories and connections to the land.
