BOARDWALK festival & sale 2010

On Saturday, August 21,2010 over 7500 treasure seekers to to the Quay Promenade to scour the hundreds of tables full to over-flowing with household, music, bric-a-brac and a plethora of other unique treasures.

There were also a great many new additions to entertain the shopper this year with the addition of massage station, mini donuts, Lion's Hot dogs, bouncy castles, Firetruck slides, 3 entertainment stages, and a Farmers Market.

Without question this was the largest event of its type in the lower mainland and the Festival & Sale has established itself as one of the largest 'recycling-oriented' events to take place in the 'greenest city in BC' - New Westminster.

Don't miss it next year when it is rumoured that festival organizers are going to go for a Guiness World Record of the longest outdoor sidewalk sale (and festival ) in Canada!.

The QCB wishes to thank VIRGINIA BREMNER of DOWNTOWN New Westminster for her incredible particpation in this years event. Partnering with the Downtown BIA was a great bonus for the event and we are looking forward to next year and more join-ventures together.

...AND THE WINNER IS

The Quayside Community Board (QCB) is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2008 Light Up The Quay event is THE LIDO. The Lido was voted as Best Building Light Display. Congratulations to all the tenants who went out of their way this year to bring the joy and spirit of the holiday season to all of us who live and visit the Quay area.

The time has come to break out the eggnog and host a 'Light up the Quay' social with your neighbours or strata council to discuss how you and your buidling are going to walk away with honours of being the best light-up building on the Quay this year. Traditionally the 17th or 18th of December is the day the judges go for their walk-about to judge the most effective use of lights celebrating the spirit of the holidays. If you have any questions please send us an email.

The second annual BOARDWALK Festival & Sale was a huge success this year for both vendors (over 75) and buyers (up to 1500 was the estimated attendance). This years event featured two live music performers: Palomino(10am - noon) & Bryan Anderson(1pm - 3pm).  There was plenty of Hotdogs and Beverages provided by the Lion's Club of New Westminster and a raffle of extraordinary prizes to raise funds for the Royal City Music Theatre Society.  Of course, what items were not sold where generously donated to the Burnaby Hospice by the vendors.

We would like to thank the following sponsors for their generous support for this years event:

of this great event

An estimated 1500 people risked possible rain to come down to the floral-lined Quayside Boardwalk in New Westminster to discover treasures that included Condos, Cars and of course Curiousities. Following are some pictures of the many people who enjoyed a day of shopping for unique items not found in your average store.

...THE MULTITUDE OF TREASURE SEEKERS

...ENTERTAINMENT HELPED THE SHOPPING MOOD

ARISTATA, winners of the Super Nova Battle of the Band 2007, entertained a diverse crowd of Seniors, Adults and children. Once the band started playing, toes began to tap, heads started to bop and hands to clap.

...CITY OF NEW WESTMINSTERS' FINEST TOOK IT ALL IN

Members of New Westminster City Council took an opportunity to shop and meet with the multitude of voters that took to the promenade.

Councilor BETTY MACINTOSH is sandwiched between event organizers MATHEW LAIRD (L) and JAMES CROSTY (R).

...OUR INCREDIBLE SPONSORS

Sponsor ROYAL CITY MUSICAL THEATRE supplied the ever-popular Face Painting to raise funds by donation. With the donations from the Face Painting and those of the Raffle Draw, the event raised $350.00 for the Royal City Musical Theatre group.

The LIONS CLUB couldn't keep up to the demands for Hot Dogs. Good thing too, because they raised over $600.00 to assist them in doing the great work for the community of New Westminster.

There is a real art to blowing up balloons, and event co-organizer MATHEW LAIRD became a fine artist as he blew up the myriad of ballons that dotted the Boardwalk...all in the hands of happy young attendees.

GORD LEE, of the Royal City Musical Theatre group, did his part to help the Lions raise money through hot dogs sales.
