PUBLIC ART VS. PRIVATE DECISIONS

While we are firm in our appreciation to Aragon for their donation of a 'Public Art' installation, it does raise the question of who has the right to make the decision on which artist, which piece, commission vs. off-the-rack, the location etc.

Because a developer puts up the financing to acquire a peice of art, does that mean they have purchased the right to determine the specifics of the installation without the significant contribution of the public - or for that matter - City Hall. Where has City Hall been in this process? If this aspect of Public Art is a concern ( or not ) to you,we again ask you to voice your thoughts the Quayside Community Board info@quaysideboard.com , droppel@aragon.ca and also to your Mayor and Council at city hall postmaster@newwestcity.ca.
